As the founder and CEO of Hint Water, Kara Goldin is known for her entrepreneurial spirit. During the 1990s, Kara spent time working for a company whose product was developed by Steve Jobs himself—and that was before she joined AOL on a senior level. However, prior to her time in Silicon Valley, there was the career launching pad that is New York, where she seemingly willed herself into her first position on a whim.
Through these experiences, Kara would cultivate the skills needed to start her own company in the competitive beverage industry, in which she had zero experience, at home, all while raising four children. And succeed. She’s even written a book about it: Undaunted.
In our sixth episode of season four, we discuss what drives Kara to take the same risks that many others simply choose to avoid. You’ll hear how a letter she received just out of college emboldened her to move halfway across the country to NYC. You’ll also hear Kara expound on the virtues of remaining curious and how she used the hard lessons learned during the 2008-09 financial crisis to raise additional capital for her company to survive the economic climate triggered by the pandemic.

Kara’s first book, Undaunted, published by Harper Leadership, was released in October 2020. She currently lives in the Bay Area.
